1. Who we are

United Dream Rivers Services ("UDRS", "we", "us", "our") is a registered South African non-profit company (NPC Reg: [NPC registration number]) and an approved Public Benefit Organisation under Section 18A of the Income Tax Act (SARS PBO Exemption Reference 930091096, Taxpayer Reference 9918409187). This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information you give us directly, including:

  • Contact details submitted through our contact, volunteer, or partnership forms (name, email, phone number, message content).
  • Donor information needed to process a donation and issue a Section 18A tax certificate (name, email, and — for tax certificates — address and, where applicable, ID or company registration number).
  • Payment information you enter directly with our payment processors (PayFast, PayPal) — we never see or store your card, bank, or wallet details ourselves.
  • Basic technical information (browser type, pages visited) collected automatically to keep the site secure and working correctly.

3. How we use your information

  • To respond to enquiries, volunteer applications, and partnership or investment interest.
  • To process donations and issue Section 18A tax-deductible receipts.
  • To administer recurring (monthly) donations, including sending reminders about upcoming or changed payments.
  • To send you an occasional update about our work, only where you've agreed to hear from us.
  • To meet our legal, tax, and regulatory obligations as a registered NPC and PBO.

4. Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary: with payment processors (PayFast, PayPal) to complete a donation; with SARS or our auditors where required for tax-exemption compliance; or with service providers (such as our website host, Netlify) who process data strictly on our instructions to keep the site and our systems running.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Our site uses only the technical storage needed for it to function correctly (for example, remembering that you've already seen our pre-launch splash screen). We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you, to request that we correct or delete it, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent for communications at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

7. Data security and retention

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, or disclosure. We keep donor and tax-certificate records for as long as required by SARS and South African tax law, and other personal information only for as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected.

8. Children's privacy

Our site and donation forms are intended for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a parent or guardian.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The "last updated" date above will always reflect the most recent revision.
